Greeters
Parish Greeters welcome members and visitors at our weekend Masses. The Greeters express our desire to be a warm and friendly parish who wish to follow the caring example of Jesus. Additional volunteers are needed and welcome to this important ministry. Please call the Rectory.

Ushers
This ministry is open to all adult members of the parish. For more information, please call the Rectory.

Altar Servers
Immaculate Conception students in grades 7 through 12 are eligible to serve the parish as altar servers. they provide service for Sunday liturgies, funerals and special occasions. For information on policy or scheduling, contact the Rectory.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
The pastor invites and appoints members to serve as ministers of the Eucharist. All are privileged to assist the Clergy at the Celecbration of the Mass. In addition, they bring the Holy Eucharist into the home or hospital facilities to those who are either ill or infirm.
All members have a responsibility to promote devotion and understanding of the Blessed Sacrament. They should and do bear in mind they have the honor of actually bringing to their fellow Christians, the Mystical Body of Christ Himself.

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
The John Paul II Chapel in the rear of the Children's Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for perpetual adoration of the Eucharist. Volunteers sign up and commit to be present with the Body of Christ for an hour at a time. Those interested in becoming adorers should click on this link to learn more.

Parish Choir
The Immaculate Conception Choir is a volunteer ministry of men and women of the parish whose main responsibility is providing musical leadership at the 11:30am Sunday Mass and other important celebrations of the Liturgical year. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30pm. the Choir usually extends from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Additional singers are welcome for the Festival Christmas and Easter Choir (preparations during Advent and Lent). the Choir is the direction of Dale Beaver.

Contemporary Liturgical Music Group
The CLMG serves the parish by leading the congregation in prayerful song at the 9:30am Mass on Sunday. singers and instrumentalists looking for and opportunity to learn and sing/play contemporary liturgical music are invited to join CLMG at their practices or Sunday liturgies. Children's Choir
The Children's Choir is made up of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades from the parish. They meet for rehearsal every Tuesday afternoon from 3:15 to 4:15pm from September to May. they provide music for a weekend liturgy once a month. Fun activities include a December caroling/pizza party and an end of the year get together. For more information, contact Dale Beaver, 252-6030.

Funeral Choir
The Funeral Choir sings for Funeral Masses at Immaculate Conception. No rehearsals are required. the groups meets upon notification by the group leader. Contact Joanne Ulliman, 267-7358.

Children's Liturgy
A Children's Liturgy for the parish students, age 6 through grade 5, on Sunday mornings during the 9:30am Mass. Students begin Mass with their families and then proceed to Room A for the Gospel and Homily that is designed for their needs and level of understanding. Children's Liturgy begins in September and runs through mid-May. There is no pre-registration or registration fee and children attend as their schedule permits. Sunday Preschool Program
A preschool program is available for 3, 4, and 5(K) year olds on Sunday mornings during the 9:30am Mass. Classes begin in September and continue through mid-May. We use the "Children of God" early childhood Catechetical program and supplement with prayer service. There is an Advent program and a Lenten program. The curriculum is designed to allow the children to discover God's presence and love in the experience of self, family, neighborhood and the larger church community. There is a $20.00 fee.

 

Religious Education

Parish School of Religion (P.S.R.)
The parish religious education program provides religious instruction and sacramental preparation for parish children who do not attend the parish school. The program covers grades 1 through 8. Classes begin in September and run through mid-May. Meeting time is Sunday morning from 10:30 to 11:15am in the Children's Center.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.)
The R.C.I.A. process involves instructions in the Catholic faith, liturgical ceremonies and opportunities to become a part of the community. The R.C.I.A. is for those interested in becoming Catholics and those Catholics who wish to be updated in their understanding of the Church and its teachings and practices. All adults are welcome and there is no charge. Adult Catholics act as sponsors for those in the class who are not Catholic.

Women's Bible Discussion
Women of the parish meet every Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm in the Children’s Center to discuss the weekly scripture readings and Bible Study. This opportunity is open to all women of the parish and your participation would enrich not only your own spirituality but that of all women of the Immaculate Conception community. Babysitting is provided.

Fellowship Group for Catholic Men
This parish men's fellowship group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month and the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in the Childrens Center. They share ideas and learn how to grow in the love of God, their wives and children; how to balance conflicting responsibilities of work and family; and how to grow in holiness as men while supporting their brothers in Christ. Parish and Community Service

Coffee Talk
The Catholic Digest designs the program, "Coffee Talk". Meetings are held on Tuesday, from 1-3pm, the rectory basement. They begin with a prayer, followed by a reading of one or two stories from the magazine. A discussion follows with explanations and questions provided by the Catholic Digest. The gathering continues with conversation and projects. Some projects include knitting and crocheting layettes for the Bambino Guild, quilting, and making rosaries that are given to the missions. Items have also been donated to the Parish Festival. Contact Mary Trenor at 262-7908.

Immaculate Conception Women's Club
Since 1945, the Immaculate Conception Women's Club has been serving our Church and community. We have many activities and projects in which all women of the parish can participate. Consider helping with things such as: visiting the sick and infirm at the State Hospital, cleaning the church, comforting the bereaved through our funeral luncheon program and much more. In addition, we support special events by hosting receptions during mission week and during other special times. We need people with varied interest and skills, please consider volunteering your time through the Women's Club.

Sick and Shut-In Ministry
Sick and shut-in members of the parish are visited regularly by Msgr. Missimi and other parish members. If you or a member of your family is experiencing an extended illness at home or at the hospital, we ask that you call the rectory office, 267-9241

Parish Nurse Program
Parish Nurses are registered nurses who provide health education and health screenings to frail, elderly and disabled people who live in our area. They refer them to needed medical services and reach out to the under served by treating conditions before they become emergencies. the goal of the Parish Nurse Program is to allow people to make informed decisions which will help them achieve a healthy pattern of living and a new and better balance in their lives. St. Vincent de Paul Society
St. Vincent de Paul is a service organization directing their attention to the works of charity. They meet on the first and third Mondays of the month following 8:30am Mass (9:15am) in Room C, and also the third Monday evening of the month at 7:30pm in room C. New members are welcome and may attend either morning or evening meetings.

Open Shelter Ministry
Volunteers from our parish community help with food preparation, donations, and dinner service for homeless men at the Open Shelter on the 3rd Friday of every month. If you would be interested in this ministry, call Cheryl Costello, 263-5115, or the parish office, 267-9241.

Tinity House
Our parish is involved in a unique opportunity to host homeless families in a pleasant, homelike facility operated by the YWCA/Interfaith Hospitality Network. Every eight weeks for one week, volunteers from our parish provide meals and host families during evening hours. If you would be interested in this ministry, call John or Judith DiBari, 784-0711.

Building Responsibility, Equality and Dignity Organization (B.R.E.A.D.)
Immaculate Conception is part of a network representing 40 interfaith congregations throughout Columbus that participates in the organization. B.R.E.A.D. seeks to draw upon the strength of people of faith to act on local issues working together toward a greater degree of justice and fairness in the community. This is done through relationship building, direct action and negotiation with decision-makers. For information, contact Ed Hoffman at 262-5548 or the parish office, 267-9241.

Advisory Board of Education
The Immaculate Conception Advisory Board of Education exists to give the Catholic Lay Community a voice in education decision-making and to guide Catholic Educators in providing academic and religious programs for the students. The purpose of the Board is to encourage Christian education within the school community. The Boards' responsibilities include, but are not limited to, approval of the annual budget and evaluating administrative personnel.

Home and School Association
The Immaculate Conception Home and School Association is a parent-teacher organization that promotes spiritual and educational forces in Catholic education and creates greater appreciation of the Catholic faith. Through family-oriented activities and fundraisers, the association has contributed to the needs of our student, families, teachers and facilities. Meetings are held at 7pm on the first Tuesday of the month in the school library. Officers are elected annually. Members at large, treasurer, and secretary serve a one-year term. President requires a three-year commitment. Chair people and volunteers are always needed to keep the activities running smoothly.

Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts begin in Kindergarten and go through the twelfth grade. There are several troups in our parish at various levels. To join, call the Girl Scout Seal of Ohio Council, 487-8101, for placement in a troop close to you and Immaculate Conception parish.

Cub Scouts
Cub Scout pack 36 is available to any boy who is 8 years old or is in the 3rd grade. Pack meetings are generally held on the last Friday of the month, October through May. Den meetings are held weekly, October through May, in the rectory basement.

Boy Scouts
Troop 16, Boy Scouts of America has been sponsored by Immaculate Conception Church for over 40 years. The program is for boys from age 11 to 17 years. It is not necessary to be a Cub Scout to be become a Boy Scout. The boys are guided by a Scoutmaster and a committee of other adults. The program of the Boy Scouts is to develop leadership in each boy. The ultimate goal is to become an Eagle Scout. Troop meetings are held weekly in the rectory. Troop Committee meetings are held bi-weekly in the rectory. Weekend campouts are held almost every month. As long as adult help is available, a week of summer camp will be planned each year.

 

Social Activities and Fundraisers

Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee meets periodically to plan activities which promote a warm and welcoming spirit in our parish. Some of their activities include "Hospitality Sunday," "Newcomers Potluck," "Sunday Greeters," and others. New Members are welcome. Men's Basketball
Parish men play basketball in the I.C. Gym every Wednesday night at 9:00pm during the months of October through April or May. If you are over 30, get ready for a good, vigorous time.

I.C. Women's "Gym-nite"
Women over 18 are welcome to participate in this sports program each Tuesday night at 9:00pm in the Gym to play volleyball, basketball, etc. You will enjoy a fun and relaxing evening. Call Diane Schlegel, 263-2170, for any details.

Parish Festival
The largest money raising and social event of the year. This is a two-day event held each year at the end of July. It includes games for adults and children, free entertainment, lots of food, drink and fun. This event requires many workers and is a great opportunity to get to know other members of the parish.
